Wuthering Heights, analyzed, discussed and studied from every possible critical point of view, yet still remaining unexhausted, depicts fascinating characters, upon whom it probably rests its popularity, especially Heathcliff for whom Charlotte Brontë, in the preface for the novel after the very death of Emily Brontë, writes: "Whether it is right or advisable to create beings like Heathcliff, I do not know. I scarcely think it is."
Wuthering Heights, partly based upon Gothic tradition, however, transcending its genre due to its wonderful observations and subtlety, has a powerful position in world literature and has been probably one of the most haunting love stories ever written.
